About M2Gen

M2Gen® (Moffitt Genetics Corporation, Inc.) was formed in 2006 and funded with over $100 million in public and private money. The majority of the funding came as the result of an extraordinary research collaboration between H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute and Merck & Co. that began in December 2006.

For the past four years, M2Gen has served as the organization charged with supporting the Moffitt Total Cancer Care TM effort and managing the interfaces with Merck, Moffitt and the Consortium Network to execute this collaborative project. The goal of the collaboration is to accelerate drug discovery and development by amassing the nation’s largest, cancer-focused biorepository and database of high quality tumor tissue and associated samples with extensive companion data sets. These data sets include molecular profiles and pharmacogenomic assessments aligned with pathology reports, patient clinical reports, and demographic responses. In addition to the project revenue from the Moffitt - Merck & Co. collaboration, M2Gen has received $15 million in support from the State of Florida, $25 million from Hillsborough County and $2 million from the City of Tampa, including land.

M2Gen is also well on its way toward generating the 165 to 170 high-wage scientific and technical jobs promised to the county and state in return for their financial support. Today, M2Gen employs more than 150 professionals and is hiring more each day. Our goal is to become one of the preferred employers of scientific researchers and technicians in Florida and to establish the technical engine for bringing personalized cancer medicines to market and improving patient health.
