The Honorable H. Lee Moffitt

Former Speaker
Florida House of Representatives
Founder
H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute

H. Lee Moffitt, an attorney and former state legislator, served as Speaker of the Florida House of Representatives from 1982 to 1984. A Tampa native and cancer survivor, he conceived the idea for the creation of the Cancer Center and spearheaded a $70-million appropriation through the Legislature to build the facility.

Throughout Mr. Moffitt's tenure in the Florida legislature, he labored for nine years on his dream: to bring to Florida a world-class cancer center, an institution where working for a cure would be as important as offering patients the most advanced treatment. During Moffitt's term as speaker, the Legislature named the cancer center after him, to recognize and honor him for his commitment to the initiative.

Mr. Moffitt earned his B.A. from the University of South Florida and his law degree from Cumberland School of Law.

Today, Mr. Moffitt donates much of his time to efforts related to the cancer center for cancer research, and his passion is serving on the board of the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center & Research Institute.
